Orientation & Settling In
Orientation is a great time to introduce your child to their new environment with the reassurance of knowing you’re still with them. It provides them with the opportunity to socialise and familiarise themselves with their educators and peers and this can help with first day anxiety. It’s important to remember that while orientation can reduce separation anxiety, it’s still normal for children to cry when you leave.
It’s a big step to send your child to care and we want you to feel comfortable throughout the process.
What to expect during Orientation
From a Child’s Perspective:
Your child will be encouraged to explore and become familiar with the new environment. Our educators will encourage your child to join in on current activities, but also give them the freedom to explore the learning environment and see what they may be interested in. This gives an opportunity for your child to become familiar with the other children in their room and recognising a few familiar faces on their first day may help to calm their nerves.
From a Parents Perspective
Orientation covers important administrative details such as signing in/out procedures, emergency protocols, and communication channels between staff and parents. Families will have the opportunity to meet key educators and ask questions about curriculum, safety measures, and their child's individual needs.
It's a time for parents to share information about their child's habits, preferences, and any special considerations. Educators will give advice about settling children in over their first few sessions. Overall, orientation aims to ease the transition for both children and families, ensuring a comfortable start to their child care journey.
